Description

This black weed control fabric helps limit unwanted growth while keeping garden areas looking neat with less ongoing work. Manufactured from spun-bond polypropylene, it is designed to let air, water and nutrients pass through to the soil while reducing light exposure to suppress weeds.

Which material works well for weed control?

Spun-bond polypropylene is commonly used for weed control as it restricts sunlight from reaching the soil surface, helping reduce weed development while still allowing moisture and nutrients to support plant growth.

Suitable for gardens, paths and planted areas

This 70g per square metre fabric is designed for longer-term use in borders, beds, around trees and shrubs, and beneath gravel, paving or pathways where weed control is needed.

Why use weed control fabric?

Using landscape fabric can help cut down on manual weeding, keep soil in place, improve moisture retention and maintain a more manageable growing area.

Where can it be applied?

Landscaped areas

Lay the fabric beneath decorative surfaces such as gravel, bark or woodchip to help reduce weed growth. It can also be positioned under decking to minimise weeds pushing through gaps.

Fruit and vegetable planting

The fabric can be cut to allow planting through it, making it suitable for crops including courgettes, lettuce, marrows, cabbage, cauliflower, sweetcorn, tomatoes, strawberries, gooseberries and currants.

How to lay weed control fabric

Start by clearing weeds and levelling the ground. Cut the material to size, leaving enough for overlaps where needed. Position it over the area and secure using garden pegs if required. Cover with your chosen surface such as mulch or gravel, then cut openings where planting is needed. Keeping the fabric covered helps extend its lifespan.
