Description

Long life fungus gnat nematodes (20m²) offer a gradual-release method for managing fungus gnat larvae in compost and soil. Designed for use around houseplants, greenhouse crops, and outdoor containers, they help reduce larvae in damp growing media where infestations develop.

The product is supplied as small gel-based pearls containing beneficial nematodes, so no mixing is required. After watering, the pearls slowly break down, releasing nematodes into the compost where larvae are present.

Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

Fungus gnat nematodes for pots, containers and indoor plants

Fungus gnats commonly develop in consistently damp compost, particularly around seedlings and houseplants. These nematodes are applied to the soil surface around plant stems, helping target the area where larvae live and feed.

Each pack contains approximately 10 million nematodes, including a mix of Steinernema feltiae and Steinernema carpocapsae.

How the nematodes work in compost

The pearls hold thousands of microscopic nematodes within a gel coating. When watered, the coating softens and releases them gradually into the soil, allowing them to move through the compost without the need for liquid preparation.

Reapplication guidance

To maintain control, repeat treatments are recommended. Reapply every few weeks or when needed, particularly in warm indoor conditions where fungus gnats are more active.

The extended shelf life allows you to store the product and apply it when required rather than all at once.

Application method

Apply around 5g per plant (approximately half a teaspoon) to the compost surface near the base of the plant. Water thoroughly after application.

Keep the compost moist for three to four weeks to support movement through the growing media.

When to apply

Apply during cooler conditions such as evening or when weather is cloudy or damp. Soil temperature should be at least 5°C.

Indoors, timing is flexible. Outdoors, application is most effective between April and August.

Suitable growing areas

Can be used across a range of planted environments, including houseplants, greenhouses, conservatories, patio containers, and planters where fungus gnats breed in moist compost.

Pack size and coverage

This pack weighs approximately 280g and covers up to 20m² or around 50 plants, depending on application rate.

The contents can be used in portions, allowing treatment of smaller areas over time.
