Description
Box Moth Traps – Effective Control for Box Tree Moth Infestation
The box tree moth caterpillars feed on box leaves, causing significant defoliation and dieback. These pests create webbing tents to protect themselves, making early detection and control essential. The webbing can make effective control challenging.
Box Moth Trapping Season
Place your box moth traps by mid-March and continue monitoring until October. Keep in mind that the exact timing of insect emergence will vary based on location and seasonal factors.
How and When to Use Box Moth Traps
Position your box moth traps in open areas where box plants are susceptible to attack. Mount the traps at a height of 1.5 to 2 metres above the ground to maximize their effectiveness.
How Many Box Moth Traps Are Needed?
We recommend a density of 4 traps per hectare, although this may vary depending on your location and the severity of the moth infestation.
Using Lures with Box Moth Traps
Do not open or pierce the pheromone lure capsule; simply place it in the trap cage on the lid. Dispose of used lures away from the trapping area. Store unused lures in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight and heat. Lures are effective for up to 2 years when stored unopened in the original packaging.
Caring for the Trap and Changing Lures
To maintain trap performance, add approximately 5cm of water with a drop of detergent to the trap bucket. Change the pheromone lures every 5 weeks. Empty funnel traps weekly to prevent overflow and ensure continued repellency by avoiding the decomposition of captured insects.
Box Moth Trap Refill
The refill kit allows you to reuse the trap for an additional season, providing ongoing moth control for your garden.
