Description
Begin turning kitchen waste into useful compost with this complete worm composting kit. Designed for beginners and experienced growers alike, it provides everything needed to produce rich worm castings and natural liquid feed at home.
Home Worm Composting Kit
This starter kit allows you to create your own worm composting system using composting worms. The process transforms everyday organic waste into valuable compost more quickly than traditional methods, making it suitable for gardens, patios and small outdoor spaces.
Please note: wormery is not included.
Brandling worms, commonly known as tiger worms, are widely used for composting due to their strong appetite and ability to break down waste efficiently. Many growers also combine them with dendrobaena worms to increase processing speed and overall activity.
Select Your Pack Size
- 250g Wormery Pack (Worms + Coir Block + 1.5kg Lime + Instructions)
- 500g Wormery Pack (Worms + Coir Block + 1.5kg Lime + Instructions)
- 1kg Wormery Pack (Worms + Coir Block + 1.5kg Lime + Instructions)
Natural Coir Bedding Block
Included in each kit is a compressed coir block made from coconut fibre. This organic material is produced from renewable sources and contains no added chemicals or fertilisers. When soaked in water, the block expands to create up to 9 litres of bedding.
Coir offers excellent moisture retention while allowing airflow, helping create the right environment for composting worms. It has a naturally balanced pH and is easy to prepare by soaking and squeezing to a damp consistency before use.
In addition to wormeries, coir can also be used for seed sowing, potting mixes and as bedding for animals that require a humid habitat.
Wormery Lime Conditioner
The kit also contains garden lime, a calcium based soil conditioner used to support a stable composting environment. It helps regulate pH levels while supplying minerals needed for active worm populations.
Applying lime at regular intervals can reduce unpleasant smells, discourage flies and support improved worm activity and breeding.
Maintaining balanced conditions within the wormery ensures worms remain active and continue breaking down organic material effectively.
Natural Liquid Plant Feed
As the composting process develops, a liquid feed is produced within 6 to 8 weeks. This by-product contains essential nutrients including potassium and phosphorus, helping support plant growth when diluted and applied.
Kit Contents
Your chosen option includes composting worms, a coir bedding block, 1.5kg of lime and setup instructions. Please note that a worm bin or composting container is not included.
Storing Worms Before Use
Keep worms in a cool location away from direct sunlight until ready to use. Introduce them to the composting system within the recommended timeframe.
Suitable For Small Spaces
This kit is ideal for use in compact areas such as small gardens, patios or balconies due to its space efficient setup.
What Can Be Added To A Wormery
Suitable materials include fruit and vegetable peelings, tea leaves and coffee grounds. Avoid adding meat, dairy products or oily foods.
Routine Maintenance
Check the wormery weekly to ensure moisture levels are correct and there is an appropriate amount of food available.
Year Round Composting
Worm composting can be carried out throughout the year. During colder periods, placing the system in a sheltered area helps maintain activity.
Odour Control
A well maintained wormery should produce a mild earthy smell. Any strong odour usually indicates an imbalance that can be corrected by adjusting feeding or airflow.
