Slug Control
Slugs leave telltale signs in your garden - they leave behind slime trails which you'll see as a silvery deposit on leaves and stems. They also create irregular holes in plant tissue as they eat - with young seedlings the slugs will eat the complete seedlings, leaving nothing behind. Some slugs - such as the black keeled slugs - live underground so you'll only see the damage they cause when you lift potato or bulbs when you'll see they have been eaten into.
Slug activity is at its highest in the spring and autumn and the reason you see more slugs about when it's dark or wet is because they need to keep moist at all times otherwise they will dehydrate and die. This means that slug damage is at its most severe, and pest control needed the most, during warm humid periods.
Slugs are so abundant in gardens that you can often not eradicate them completely, and you have to concentrate on protecting more vulnerable plants - such as seedlings or soft young shoots. To help you control slugs problems, we stock products which enable organic control of slugs and snails - so nothing that would harm wildlife or your pets.
