Rakes & Brushes

Garden Rakes are available in a range of styles to suit different tasks within your garden. Leaf Rakes are the most common type of rake. Leaf Rakes usually have a long handle with a wide fanned end of flexible metal or plastic teeth or 'tines'. The ends of the tines are angled slightly downwards so they easily grab leaves. These lightweight rakes, with their wide heads, are easy to use and will cover a large area quickly. They are designed to do lighter sweeping jobs - as their name suggests they are good for sweeping up fallen leaves and can also be used to rake up grass clippings. Garden Rakes are designed to move and level soil, so are tougher and heavier tools than Leaf Rakes. A Garden Rake usually has a flat backed head, with the teeth of the rake pointing downwards at a 90 degree angle, making it easy for you to achieve a perfectly level surface.

Whilst you're cleaning out your greenhouse, take the time to brush down your staging, shelves and tools as well as trays and pots. Use a brush to scrub trays and containers, To reach higher places and clean floors it's best to use a brush on the end of a long pole - this means you can keep your feet firmly on the ground whilst still cleaning hard to reach spaces and remove the need for too much bending when cleaning floors. Always clean out gutters so that they don't become blocked, allowing water to flow freely.Water butts or tanks can become green with algae, so ideally clean them out once a year. Drain out any water, tipping the butt on its side to remove any debris. Use a brush to thoroughly scrub the inside of the water butt - using a brush on a long handle will make it easy for you to reach right to the base of the butt where dirt and debris can accumulate.
