It's Raining Sugar Beet In Yorkshire

Oh No ... The Skies Falling Down ...

(Or ‘the dangers of falling sugar beet!’)

chicken Licken, sugar beet falling from the skies

As Greenhouse Girl was going to work one day, whack! A sugar beet fell from the sky and almost landed on the bonnet of her car.

‘Goodness gracious me!’ said Greenhouse girl, ‘the sky must have fallen down; I must go and tell the Queen ...’

Can you believe it! I know my insurance will cover another car hitting my car, but sugar beet falling from a great height I doubt!!

At this time of year, up here in Yorkshire, the roads are strewn with trails of sugar beet down the edge of the roads ... and today I saw the culprit! Massive lorry, no covering on the top, merrily bounding down the road in front of me. Stuck in traffic, when he sets off in front of me ‘bounce’ out falls sugar beet ... just missing the bonnet of the car ... as if getting to work isn’t hard enough already!

Hey Ho, could be worse, at least I wasn’t being followed by Foxy Loxy, like poor old Chicken Licken was ...

A True Yorkshire Gardener

Do You Agree?

"I think the true gardener is a lover of his flowers, not a critic of them.
I think the true gardener is the reverent servant of Nature, not her truculent, wife-beating master.
I think the true gardener, the older he grows, should more and more develop a humble, grateful and uncertain spirit."

[Reginald Farrer, In a Yorkshire Garden, 1909]

Who Stole My Week ??

Yes, Own Up ... Someone Has Stolen The Last 7 Days ...

I can’t believe the last week has flown by so quickly! Only last Friday I was sat on the motorway trying to get to the Malvern Spring Show in bright sunshine and warm temperatures ...

Since then it seems like someone has forgotten to turn off the tap ... rain has stopped play virtually every day ...

Thank goodness Mother Nature keeps moving on ... my garden is doing its’ thing even when I’m not managing to do mine ... especially the weeds which seem to have a cunning plan to take over the world (or at least my garden).

Come on now, can we all agree, the next 7 days should be slower, a more sedate pace so I can appreciate the days and get into the garden (on this one ... if anyone’s listening, can you please turn off the tap and turn on the light?) ...
