Peas

They Can Be A Very Serious Business ...
But Today It’s All About Play ...

peas at play

Did you know that today was the World Pea Shooting Championships? No ... well you learn something everyday don’t you?

Yep, if you can remember back to your days at school ... and I mean when schools were innocent places ...
when the television wasn’t available 24 hours a day ...
when we weren’t worried about saving the planet ...
when you could eat pretty much anything without worrying about your health ...

Well you might remember those naughty boys with pea shooters hitting you in the back of the head ...

Well, those naughty boys (and girls) have now grown up and take part in the World Pea Shooting Championship ... and to them it seems to be a very serious sport ...

If you didn’t get chance to take part in the championship why not visit the website witcham.org.uk, where you’ll see that the village of Witcham near Ely pay hosts to this annual event.

And if you’re thinking of taking up this sport ... perhaps ready for the London Olympics in 2012 ... than forget using the novice equipment of a straw or empty biro ... and get hold of some serious pea shooting equipment ...

Leave it to Americans to really get in to a sport ...

"Computer calculated ID BARREL - ammo fits better, goes: further, straighter, faster"

Wow ...

And don’t think you’re not going to be keeping fit either ...

"Like most sports - pea shooting coordinates eye, hand, and brain"

So who needs the gym then? Just get in training for next years championship ... and remember it’s accuracy, not distance, that counts!

We probably had the best peashooting day for many years in terms of numbers of competitors, the BBC Countryfile team did lots of filming so we look forward to at least a few minuites of coverage soon. The results are on the website www.witcham.org.uk
