Eating Beetroot From The Garden

But ... Who's Been Eating My Beetroot?

fresh beetroot growing at the allotment, already eaten beetroot still in the ground

When Greenhouse Girl went to the allotment today to make the first harvest of beetroot for 2006 she saw that someone had been there before her.

"Somebody has been eating my beetroot" said Greenhouse Girl.

And then she saw a little black rabbit with his face amongst the beetroot munching away ... he’d obviously been reading Greenhouse Girl’s blog and knew that this weekend the beetroot would be ready to harvest ...

Although Greenhouse Girl wanted to meet the rabbit, the rabbit didn’t want to meet Greenhouse Girl ... and with all those juicy vitamins from the beetroot giving him bags of energy he want fast as can be through the allotment and disappeared down his escape route at the edge of the potato rows ...

The End ... although I’m sure he’ll be back for another instalment (or should I say meal?) ...

Bunny 1 Girl 0 - Go Bunny!

Try setting a trip wire trap that drops ssome empty cans - that may scare the little blighter off.

Hey! BBBurro ... you sound too pleased that the bunny is winning ...
But then again you left a useful tip, do you suggest a trip wire round the whole beetroot patch? Is so, I’m going to have to eat a heck of a lot of beans to get the empty cans ... I can feel the indigestion hiding round the corner ...

LOL! No, just at the bolt hole you mentioned. And I have to admit that, yes, I do like bunnies - I can't help it - they're just sooooooo cute!

Hi greenhouse girl..

Ah yes... my beetroots look just like the ones in your picture... there's so much that the rabbit could have eaten, but it ate my beetroots.... what next? The only thing i could do was to pull what was left up and eat them myself of course....

A rabbit proof fence sounds great, but impractical.... I'm going to try a mix of fresh black pepper and chilli powder spread on the garden to see if it gets up the offending bunny's nose.....
will let you know!
