Pigeon Netting

Pigeons will attack a wide range of plants, but particularly brassicas (such as broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbages, cauliflowers), peas, cherries and lilac. They will peck at the leaves and rip off portions, often leaving just the stalks and larger leaf veins. They will also attack and strip buds, leaves and fruits from blackcurrants and other fruit bushes, as well as stripping berries from shrubs such as cotoneaster, berberis, ilex, pyracantha and sorbus . You can protect low growing crops by covering them with pidgeon netting - but you need to be quick. Large birds such as pigeons can do serious damage to your plants extremely quickly - so if you haven't protected your plants with netting at the start, you will need to cover them as soon as you see the first lot of damage. Strong and durable our pigeon netting is an extruded polyethylene net that is rot proof, doesn't absorb water (so doesn't stretch) and UV light stabilised for use in direct sunlight.

Although pigeons are present all year round, they tend to be a particular problem during early summer when crops are developing and the winter months when brassicas may be the only vegetation available.

Metre of Pigeon Netting
In snowy weather fruit cage netting should either be removed or replaced by larger span Pigeon Netting to allow snow to fall through - wet snow can be very heavy!
