Storing rainwater is simple and will provide you with a valuable reserve of water if there are hosepipe bans or if you have a water meter.

You can install a water butt anywhere there is a gutter and space to place the butt. You can fit them to your house, garage, shed or greenhouse – anywhere where there is a downpipe which you can use to direct the rainwater into your water butt.

Once you’ve saved your water you then need an efficient way of getting it to your plants. Most water butts include a tap – letting you fill a water can with rainwater. Ideally, if your water butt has a stand or is raised off the ground on blocks, filling your watering can will be easy. Alternatively there are now irrigation system that can be run from the water in your water butt – once set up these take away all the effort and time spent watering your plants.
