For checking soil temperatures in or out of the greenhouse try this handy little Soil Thermometer.
- Can be used directly in soil, compost, mushroom & heated seed beds.
- Useful when propagating or planting out etc.
- Displays temperature in both degrees Centigrade & Fahrenheit. Range -30 to +50 *C (-20 to +120*F)
- Dimensions: 6" (15cm) long.
For accurate results insert the thermometer between 2 to 3 inches into the soil & check the temperature after 3 minutes.Here’s a simple guide to MINIMUM soil temperature requirements for seed germination. 5*C (40*F) – Lettuce, Pea, Radish
7*C (45*F) – Beetroot, Carrot, Leek, Parsnip, Spinach, Swede, Turnip
10*C (50*F) – Broad Bean, Broccoli, Brussel Sprout, Cabbage, Onion, Spring Onion
13*C (55*F) – French Bean, Runner Bean, Calabrese, Cauliflower
18*C (65*F) – Marrow, Courgette, Sweet Corn, Tomato
