Jiffy pellets have been used by gardeners for over 50 years. First developed by experts, then used by professional growers, jiffy pellets are now a popular way for people new to plant propagation to start growing their own plants from seeds or cuttings. As the compost is contained within a ‘net’, jiffy pellets are also one of the simplest and cleanest ways to propagate plants if you haven’t got a greenhouse. Supplied to you dry, immersing the pellets in lukewarm water for about five minutes will make the pellet swell up ready to use. You can then sow seeds directly in the hole at the top of the pellet or use for cuttings.
